Video as a Tool for Reflecting and Understanding
This session is for Early Childhood Educators up to Grade 1.
Emily Shapiro
Video is a powerful tool to support teachers in thinking deeply, collaborating, and understanding the work of the children more accurately…but how do you do it? Not only do we learn about ourselves as teachers but we get the gift of re-watching a child’s learning encounter. We will practice using video and sensitive observation as well as examine systems of organization for saving, storing, and sharing video.
Emily graduated from the University of Vermont with a major in Early Childhood Education. While attending UVM, she had the unique opportunity to learn from renowned educators Dale & Jeanne Goldhaber as well as work in a constructivist, Reggio-Inspired early childhood lab school. She has spent over 11 years at the SJCC Early Childhood School as a teacher, Education Coordinator, and Assistant Director, and is happy to be back in her native Seattle
