The Process of Documentation: What is it all about?
This session is for Early Childhood Educators up to Grade 1.
Emily Shapiro
Did you know that documentation is an active process and not just a product? The idea of “documentation” is commonly understood as a finished product that is shared with parents, the community, and our children. The purpose of documentation is not only to make learning visible to the important people in the community but to learn, reflect, and think more deeply about the work of the children and our role as co-learners, researchers, and guides. We will explore the cycle of observing, reflecting, asking good questions, and how to use technology to make this process visible.
Emily graduated from the University of Vermont with a major in Early Childhood Education. While attending UVM, she had the unique opportunity to learn from renowned educators Dale & Jeanne Goldhaber as well as work in a constructivist, Reggio-Inspired early childhood lab school. She has spent over 11 years at the SJCC Early Childhood School as a teacher, Education Coordinator, and Assistant Director, and is happy to be back in her native Seattle.
Prerequisites:
· Know how to take digital pictures
Familiarity with documents (Google Docs or Word or Pages or MS Publisher, etc.)
